Actually, since I don't drink coffee after 6 PM it really isn't very important to me at the end of the day.

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

I'm no longer sure whether this thread is about the Gene or some sort of anti-Hottop thing. I think we are lucky to have choices when buying a home-roaster :D

Personally I think to be completely fair someone should obtain a 60kg sack of green coffee beans of random origin (Maybe a nice Vietnamese Robusta :-) ) and then roast it using all methods possible:-

Oven
Frying Pan
Barbecue Roaster
Dog bowl and heat gun
Other home made roasting device
Imex
Iroast
Gene Cafe
Hottop
Behemor
Probat
Please fill in any I have missed.....

And then try the various roasts and report the best. One person. One Sack. One Unbiased opinion.

And no, I am not volunteering for the task!
Please fill in the rest...

Here are my scientific conclusions:

Oven - Sunday roast made the coffee taste like roadkill
Frying Pan - Tried olive, corn and goose fat- none worked
Barbeque Roaster - Cant find a coffee flavour barbeque sauce
Dog bowl-Heat gun - Bowl melted, Kirk wanted his phaser back
Home made device - No heating element in my bookcase
Imex - Me not Mexican Olay!
Iroast - Frequently
Gene Cafe - yep! with that
Hottop - Almost a palindrome
Behemor - I saw that movie, monster from the deep
Probat - the first six letters of what the judge put me on

Oh shite! I thought it was a questionaire.

To add:
Has Garanti
Toper
100 other marks

To be determined method of heating: constant heat, or variable, heat source on and off during roaster, do we stop heating between 1st and 2nd crack? do we cool between 1st and 2nd by opening air system? Do we limit maximum temp?
Do we torture a master roaster to get his secrets?

Let's in any case torture the master roaster..... Joris has some implements we can use, no doubt......
Bezzera B3000A, Giotto Premium, several Cona's, several Balance Brewers, Atomic, Milano etc,
Aristarco, Rancilio MD 40, Ditting and Eureka MCI grinders, several antique roasters, a mini500/800N propane/electric Taiwanese roaster, greens all over the place...and some other unmentionables that have not been mentioned......
