GOOD NEWS!

Said part arrived and the plastic cog was mod'd with a brass ring to help it not to randomly snap!

Said part is now in said roaster.
Said Roaster is now in one piece.
Said Roaster is now roasting.
Said Amateur Gene Repair Man is healthy.
Said Beans (Malabar) taste great and look good.

Interestingly I have found the excessively HOT daytime temps here a great aid to roasting with the Gene. Being between 25-30 Deg in the garage is very handy. 8)

Congratulations Matt! I'm sure you'll enjoy roasting with a real roaster again.

When you say "...Repair man is healthy" does that mean the vertebral problem was caused by the broken Gene cog wheel? :D

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

The most frustrating thing about the Gene is that it always breaks down in the middle of a roast, fortunately, we have a thing called a 'STEVE'. This is a computer communcation device that can, unasked, instantly diagnose the problem and forward replacement parts.

If you all forward me lots of money, I shall patent this device and make our (well mine) fortunes worldwide.

'STEVE'S' non profit approach can also be exploited by reporting bogus breakdowns that will generate parts deliveries. These can be rebuilt and the resulting machines sold for an obscene profit.
