Bye-bye Behmor?

Postby the_dude » Wed Sep 05, 2007 7:27 pm

According to this link Ronco, the company behind the Behmor production is bankrupt :-(

Does anyone know more about the future of this roaster? Steve?

They went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection a while back. I vaguely remember Joe saying somewhere that it would not make any difference as Ronco expected new finance to come along. The HB thread is suggesting Joe will go through "the usual home roasting routes" should Ronco not come through, so it looks as though it will eventually appear one way or another.

It's not going to be before Christmas. I've been speaking to Joe a lot recently, and his US launch and making some money back is his number one priority.

Price wise I'd ask yo all to remember import tax and VAT is not cheap in the UK, but it shouldn't be a million miles away from that price but wont be the same for sure.

So far the comments have been very favorable. I did not purchase one because I am very happy with what I have. Someone in my area just got one and I'm going to check it out next week. The preset profiles seem to be working well. And the cooling is acceptable. Lots of chat on the forums here. Ed

Has anyone mentioned getting good results on the darker side? I have to say that I find previous comments about it not taking roasts well into 2nd crack a little offputting...

Oh, they'll get dark enough, you'll see. With 220V or more from the wall, the exhaust gas will be so hot it will set fire to the chaff. Afterburner! Unless the wires melt first, of course.

...but seriously, these things often work better on a higher tension grid. Not that they should, if they are engineered right.
