I roast in my kitchen even when I'm going well into second crack - I just open the door and put a fan on. Start out with the door closed and the fan off. When you get towards the end of first open the door and set the fan on low. When second is underway crank the fan up a notch and when you dump the beans put it on maximum.
Obviously in the summertime just leave the door open, but in the winter you don't want to chill the Hottop!
