where to buy a vacpot

Postby quink » Tue Mar 02, 2004 5:20 pm

I think I have just performed the impossible, I have managed to convince the wife that we ( by this I mean I ) need a vacpot. Needless to say this did not come cheap  .
Anyway I'm leaning towards a Santos, preferably not the electric one,but I am willing to consider alternatives, I think Alans mentioned Hario and Cona in a previous post. I cant find any websites with prices for these which is why I'm looking at the santos, which also seems to be more readily available.
I'm interested to find out also, how much parrafin they use in one go as well, or whatever it is they run on these days. Would a little bottle say 500ml do me for quite some time if I used it say once a day, or would it be better to get a pipeline run in from the north sea?

I was thinking about getting one a while ago. I contacted Cona directly and they were happy to sell one direct to me. Price was about 100GBP IIRC (+postage) for the "C" size (1.5 pints)

They also come up on ebay quite regularly. Try a search for "Cona"

I bought a Cona standard from Ebay a couple of weeks ago. It cost me £25 delivered. It is in good condition, particularly the seal. It did not come with any heat source. I'm not sure if this model sold with one originally but I just put it on top of my gas flame. It looks just like the first vacpot on Dannys page

except mine does have the glass rod. No instructions though.

I've no idea if I paid a good or bad price for this item. I'm sure someone will comment Personally, I was happy to fork out this amount as it opens up a new coffee experience.

These links are mostly from http://baharris.org/coffee/Manufacturers.htm

Hario, their Japaneese site is very cheap, but not sure if they'd ship to Europe (and how's you Japaneese?):

Yama, if you email them they may quote you, worth a look just for their great translations:

This guy seems to sell to Europe pretty much exclusivly:

And his eBay page, looks interesting:

I have never dealt with any of these people, so endorse them in no way!

Other options, get one for £25 in an eBay auction (if you can, that's a great price!), or get Phil to give you his, he never uses it ;)

Of course I've got a Santos (and another old Santos from back when they were first issued) and it works fine, so if it's easier or cheaper just get one of them!

Still trying to shame you into using that Cona Phil :D

It's the one as seen here: http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/coffee ... 7884#37884

The lady who I got it from had received it as a gift in the 70's and never used it, I've used it 3/4 times since Christmas. - I'll mail you about it anyway.
