Too Much Coffee

I need help. (not medical on this occasion)

I need a good hand grinder that can go be transported easily for french press, vac pot and maybe moka pot. I've seen a posting about before but cant find it.

Terje talked fondly about his Zassenaus (spelt right?)..

The Zassenhaus 156SW "knee mill" is quite narrow and fits into my briefcase easily. It's OK for FP and Vac pot, I don't have a moka pot.

However, I would definitely prefer a tabletop model (e.g. 169) unless using it only on the road (unless you like using the 156SW between your knees as per its design - I don't, too risky!).

My Salter No. 1 Is good, although it doesn't have the convinience of a box, however it is solid cast iron, therefore very tough. If you can find one that is....

My Zassenhaus 151 is a first rate grinder has and served me well for many a year. However, I found that the adjuster would creep finer over time.
Not a problem - a spot of black paint on the gnurled adjuster nut, keeps an eye on things and makes a dead handy ref point, for future grinds.

Am I bugging you now? Anyway, yes, I like the Zass 175 too, especially when travelling. Also, if you ask me, grinding is a lot easier when you can easily hold the grinder with one hand and turn the crank with the other. No knees, no holding the grinder flat against the table. Just hold it as if it was a pepper mill, and grind away. Travelling or not, I find this the best way of grinding with a manual grinder.
The crank is removable, but it doesn't fit inside the bottom half. Too bad, but easily fixed with a short rubber band or something. We don't want to lose the crank!
The 175 works for presso, moka, vac pot, espresso and turkish. Perhaps it becomes a bit uneven at coarse grinds, but I haven't noticed any problems with grind quality so far.
Salter No 1, espressomatic? Is this the one? That is an electric one...
Edit:Stupid me, the salter is that heavy-duty one that they stopped doing, right? That would mean looking for it on ebay, I guess.

Your edit is right...daughter bought for me for Xmas, mint condition and grinds like a dream, looks good too. Only cost £2 from a car boot sale - never used....bargin. Here's one I found...

Are those peppercorns?
