French Press or Americano?

OK, I know this is kind of an old topic, but now is the first chance I've had to play with this idea (because of the long-term problem with my espresso machine).

This morning I tried some Nicaragua Coop de 22 Septembre as an americano, but I think I made it too strong (1.5 doubles in a mug) for the subtleties to be evident. I reckon next time I'll try 1 double in a mug.

As an alternative to french press (or drip) for coffees that perhaps wouldn't make a good SO shot (I'm thinking Kenyans in particular, but also maybe "posh stuff" like JBM/KBM/Kona), americano is an interesting idea but one I have little or no experience of.

What do other people think? What are your experiences in this area?

I wouldnt allow any Kona or Kenyan anywhere near an espresso machine, way to acidic for my tastes.

But Blue mountain is tops in americano and gives it a really silky feel and gorgeous after taste. You must try the JMB. Back to the slavery of my Ambex ;)

Try using it for an americano. Americanos have very unpredictable outcomes. Many bad espresso pull makes a nice americano, IMHO.
