broken cona vac pot: Can I glue it?

Postby edraket » Tue Apr 26, 2005 2:05 pm

Hi there,

well I bought a Size D Cona vac pot at a thrift store today. For 2 euros. You can imagine I was a happy puppy.
Came home, found the instructions, and got ready to fire the thing up: Unwrapped, assambled, put the lid on the funnel. Hmm the lid is kind of tight... snap!! One neat piece of glass snaps of off the funnel.

AAAARFGGGHGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I went back to look at the pictures and it doesn't even seem to have a lid. That was just put there by the people at the store.

So I was thinking. Could I try to repair it? Glue it? The crack is high enough that I doubt the water would ever hit the glue anyways. It won't be pretty. But it will function and I can at least get to taste the coffee it makes. There is no way I will be able to afford a new funnel right now.

Well I guess the glue would have to be heat and water resistant, and food-safe. As long as it makes a good seal though and the aforementioned criteria are met, I don't see why not.

Bad luck btw. :(

Hmm. Is it cracked, or has a piece snapped off? If a piece has snapped off, you could just "file down" the sharp edge to make it safe (with something designed for the purpose rather than just any file, of course). Depending on what it's like though, glue might make more sense in terms of retaining some of the strength. Maybe some pictures would help?

Good luck.
