Boiler safety inspection in the midlands,uk?

Postby Skippy » Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:43 pm

My Cimbali junior is getting on for 17 years old now and only refurbished by me once in that time as far as i know. I'm still not sure if I'm going to sell the machine or not but I was thinking it would be a good idea to have it professionally inspected anyway to make everything is still safe.

Does anyone know of any company that does this in the west midlands area? Is it even possible to get it done on a small commercial machine in your own home?

Thanks all

I do not know of a company offering such a service in the west midlands. If it is boiler safety you are mainly concerned about then the main item of concern is the overpressure relief valve. If it was my machine I would visually inspect the copper boiler to ensure it is not damaged and fit new relief valve.

I did replace the safety valve when I refurbished the machine 5-6 years ago but as I basically don't know what I'm doing I was thinking it would be good to have a professional look it over.

If its not possible then thats fine, ill just have to trust that everything looks ok. I might order a new safety valve direct from cimbali next time so at least i know that part is 100%

Thanks for the help.

We went through some of this thinking about what to do with Anna when she was playing up. We did get in touch with the guy who services the machines at Coffeefix but nothing came of it and in the end a combination of what I did (new pump, new controller, lots and lots of descalling) and, erm, 'pixie dust' (as in I have no idea, some time after the fixes she just started working properly again) did the job.

If you do have a localish friendly specialist coffeeshop it may well be worth an ask.

The alternative for us was going to be shipping Anna off to an engineer down south (a suggestion from Scott at HappyDonkey) which would have worked but I could imagine would be time consuming and possibly expensive.
