The Nomad

If this is already around....apologies:

Looks like an interesting concept apart from the Crema attachment.

Thoughts?

It looks quirky enough to be fun. However for travelling the Aeropress takes a lot of beating. Good luck to them.

Bruce probably already has one ;)

I saw some posts about it several months ago. I find statements such as "The Nomad makes the highest quality espresso possible" incredible  and it puts me off considering it further.

I like the basic concept, but I think others have already got there years ago. Wasn't there a hand held pump machine somewhere? I agree GB, big claims like that are off putting - and the fact it needs an attachment to create crema is not a good sign.

Can you imagine what the temperature of the water is when it hits the coffee after being poured into that big, heavy container? Even if it was boiling I doubt that it is still 85°C by the time it goes through. This is basically the problem with all of these "portable" machines.
Three Francesconi (CMA) espresso machines - Rossi, San Marco, LaCimbali, Faema and 2 Mazzer Major grinders- CoffeeTech Maggionlino, Hottop, Alpenröst and HW Precision roasters.
I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

If I am "going places" and need to make real espresso, I bring the Java Rocket (I know I know, it's called Bacchi, but it sounds like it is about to take off, so for us it's the Rocket). It makes real espresso and you can just put it straight on top of the camping stove instead of first boiling the water in a separate pot. It looks great together with the Trangia :)

With polite hesitation I now must mention that if you are going to heat the water separately, there actually is the more compact and very travel friendly Handpresso, which also uses a pump for building up extraction pressure.

Oh, by the way, now it's getting kind of embarrassing, but Nomad guys... The Arrarex Caravel can be used the same way as your machine, is a true lever machine, has a nice large water container and (blush) comes with a built-in electric heater, if you happen to find yourself near a mains outlet.

I wonder if any one of these three (Bacchi, Aeropress, VAM/Arrarex Caravel) would have been a success at Kickstarter?

Where's the Like button when you need it...
Cakey, you have so much more coffee stuff than I do. Don't you ever break anything?
