If you put it like that, I don't hope it's He Who Must Not Be Named . . .

I don't think I am He Who Must Not Be Named. Mostly people tend to just call me Colin.

Well folks, heres a quick update.

Colin (see above posts) came over and helped me through the milk frothing process. It seems I was nearly there, but just needed a few tweaks to my technique. He showed me what I needed to know to improve and produce the microfoam needed. He even brought his machine and all his kit with him, incl coffee weighing device, frothing thermometer etc.

Many thanks mate, I'm just gonna practice a bit more now, and then start with the art you showed me.

Cheers all for your tips, and especially Colin who gave up time to assist,

Stuart

We managed a couple of very reasonable rosettas - Stuart was very close, just needed to concentrate on getting limited air in early and then spending the rest of the time stretching and rolling to mix, then swirling to get the mixture right.

(Now we need to persuade him to get a grinder and some decent beans!)

No problem Stuart, glad to have been of help.

And yes, a decent grinder is worth the investment.

Excellent work Colin and congratulations Stuart. Friends don't let friends fail at frothing! Image

...and yes, fresh beans and a good grinder are probably the most important prerequisites for good coffee. If the budget is tight keep an eye on e-bay and if you find something interesting you can first bounce it off the folks here for recommendations. There are still good deals to be had. :D

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

frothing milk

Postby Algerian » Wed Jan 04, 2012 11:27 pm

As one who has benefited from the terrific people on TMC, I love it when I read something like this.

In fact, even though Lawrence showed me the frothing technique, it's been good to watch the videos as I've been losing it a bit.....

More practice!
