gaggia temperature problems

Postby misalda » Wed Nov 23, 2011 5:02 pm

Ooops posted this in the wrong forum 1st

Hi all,
I am having issues with sour shots suddenly and I've just checked the temperature using the foam cup method and can only get 80 deg C..ish
I've used the same Gaggia Classic for about 8yrs with no maintainance other than the usual cleaning.
I assume this means the brew thermostat is faulty, does anyone know the best place to get them in th U.K. ?

Have you ever descaled the machine? A mild descaling agent is recommended, due to the aluminium boiler.

I live in the north east so don't have too many water problems, although I do descale twice a year with gaggia descaler. I've ordered a stat from happy donkey so we'll see if that cures it ?

If you already descale it twice a year, you're doing better than most :)

What are you using now? I have been unable to source Gaggia descaler for upwards of a year.

Fortunately I already had a year's supply (2?) left.

Gaggia descaler is tartaric acid, available from home-brew suppliers and online if you're stuck. Use it at 10% concentration.
