Postby Jonny782 » Thu May 05, 2011 1:19 pm

The knob has come off after 3 of 4 years' use. not sure if something has snapped inside. any suggestions would be welcome.

I think photos have to be hosted elsewhere before they'll show.

No, up to 3 photos per post can be put up here if they are not too large. If anyone is having problems with this drop me a P.M. and we'll work it out.

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

I have realised that the end of the cap comes off, and there is a small disk and a clip which i've tried fitting back onto the screw, but it still doesn't work . stymied at present having to heat milk on the hob. Will try to add photo.

I took the knob off my wife's knicker drawer and hammered it onto the shaft of my Gaggia Achille after the 3rd OEM replacement rounded. Worked a treat.

Hope this helps.

Hmmmm, it might help. Depends on how many knobs your wife's knicker drawer has, I guess. :?

But where do the clip and washer go? When you screw the knob onto the shaft, the shaft emerges through the the hole y - does the tiny clip go round the part of the shaft sticking out of the hole with the washer behind that? it does not seem to work. Or does the clip somehow go round the shaft in the hole? (picture hopefully to follow courtesy of Bruceb) Picture added. BB

Somewhat embarrassing imagery once Bombcup's wife's knicker drawer entered the scene!

Ah-ha i have cracked it - the washer goes on first, and then the clip into a groove in the shaft. Having lost and found the clip several times (including being washed down the sink plughole into the U-bend), I squeezed the clip with pliers to get a tighter fit as it kept popping out when I unscrewed the knob. Finally when it was still not working, I realised that dried milk was blocking the holes and cleaned them out with a paper clip. No more heating milk on the hob (hooray). Next job - working out where i went wrong failing to get photos on the site (put on for me by BruceB).
