Just ordered new burrs

Postby Aadje » Tue Feb 22, 2011 12:24 pm

Well, I just ordered new burrs for my SJ (at ESW's). Can't wait to find out how much of a difference they are going to make.

The current burrs were in there when the grinder was still Zapty's iirc, as I don't remember Beany (who got the grinder from Zapty) mentioning putting new burrs in.

I think you are correct Aadje. As far as I remember, Beanie had only Zapty's burrs :)

Although half of the current active members wouldn't know how either Zapty or Beanie are :D

I remember seeing posts by Beanie from years back when I was rooting around. Interested to hear how the new burrs go, did you order original Mazzer burrs?

Yes, I ordered at ESW, tmc member Henkespresso's shop in The Hague. I asked for Mazzer SuperJolly burrs, and they say they sell 'em, so I ordered. Afaik they know a thing or two about espresso machines n stuff, so I presume I get the right ones.

True enough. She is doing okay, does anyone still have any contact with Zapty?

I'll drop him an email and see how he's doing. I had word from him a few months ago and he sounded ok, but busy with lots of other things.

I agree Aadje. That would be great Bruce, please pass our regards if you catch up with him. Perhaps that's it GB, he has become a burrless recluse? ;)

Well, installed and tested. They are Mazzer OEM burrs, labelled that they indeed are for the SJ.

Grinding time is cut in half and beautiful pours on the naked pf. Truly beautiful, no channeling whatsoever. And they taste good as well.

I am under the impression too, that the grinder handles changes in coarseness more accurate, but I might be biased on that.

Well worth the money.

Congratulations Aadje! I have been putting off ordering new burrs, but maybe I'll do it now. Did you have any problem removing the screws from the burr carriers?

Thanks Bruce. Installing isn't at all difficult, 3 screws per burr, that's it. No problems at all removing those.

Oh and the guy from ESW states I can now happily grind at least 250 kg of beans. Given that I grind up to 500 grams a week, at most, these burrs will safely last the next 10 years :)

Are these titanium or "duranium" burrs? (Since your grinding time was cut in half, I mean. Or were the old burrs that worn?)
