Mazzer super jolly... timer... need views asap

Postby NottmSteve » Tue Nov 02, 2004 4:52 pm

I have been offered one used, in great nick
Have to be quick... how do these compare to the mini, apart from size? Is the timer an issue? Is it domestic overkill, and will churn coffee and waste loads of grinds for a low user? etc......

And whats a fair 2nd hand price! Need to know soon!

Cheers

Huge. Unless your kitchen is too you'll need to take the hopper off! Ihave not found the big doser thing to be an issue as far as wastage/staling goes in my Cimbali Jnr, but I do give the whole thing a hoover out every week or two. £100-£150 or so? (just a guess)

Is the timer an issue... I seem to recall ones either with or without were preferable? One was definately better...
Is the Jolly on a par with the mini? I asume its just bigger, and performs as well?
Too many questions, too little time! (I'd google, but I need to knowASAP!)

Presume by timer you mean the little clock type ticking dial on the side that you just wind on to the time length you want, which would be ideal I would have thought. Burrs are bigger than the Mini so it will be a little faster (double in 10-11 seconds). If the grinder is the right price you can work around things IMHO (eg just turn the power on and off for the grind time you want, fit a timer etc).

Bigger burrs, if anything a better grinder (although only so for commercial use as matt pointed out the other week).

Timer - not a problem when you get used to it. I have a timer on my Lusso and it's no problem.

If the price is right and you trust the condition of the machine, GO FOR IT! DO IT NOW!

:D :D :D

Depends on condition. Don't forget they cost four hundred-odd new. Depends how well you know the vendor. Offer £100 is my suggestion, but I would expect to pay nearer £150.

I can't remember what Chris (mnemonix) paid for his. Chris, if you're passing, remind us please would you?

Cheers

The one on ebay right now is £180 and has not met its reserve.
I have on in my kitchen - it is big - but it's worth it.
The timer is good so that you don't leave it running without any beans in it.
There is a flap that stops the beans leaving the hopper and entering the grinder - realy easy to accidentally close.
The new hopper design is a bit of a pain as it has a plastic piece to stop you putting your fingers in the grinder.
Occassionally the beans will form a blockage on this peice. Just give the hopper a tap to free them.

You might have read this in my post in the open house forum. I got an old second hand super jolly with new burrs and new hopper for 175 euros from the people at www.esw.nl last week. They have more. Don't know if they are willing to ship these though. You'd have to ask.

- Mazzer Super Jolly -
- Tristar popper, Unmodified except for some extra holes. -
