So I guess you won't need the Rocky.

Might still do, I'm still a little wary of this regular cracking.
I might still give it a test run and see if it would be better if that's OK?

Sure mate. You have my number. You can keep it as long as you (reasonably) like, assuming you fit the new burrs for me. That way if I get it back it'll be in a state where it could go straight onto eBay.

Remember though that I'm out tomorrow.

Nice result. Don't write off the Mazzer, lots of reports of success with a strategic cut of the hopper just before it starts to narrow. Looks a bit odd but only if you know what it's supposed to look like!

I mamged to get my first espresso for a few days this morning. I put the hopper really gently in the top carrier so as not to spread the crack, and set the dial much further back than ususal, and got a reasonable shot, a little long at 35s, but OK for a capp. I haven't tried that last few days as I've had a stinking cold :( , but feeling a bit better (but VERY bunged up) this morning so fancied some caffeine. Curiously, after going cold turkey for a few days, I haven't noticed withdrawal effects, I've had a mild headache, buit that was more of a cold related one, perhaps the cold has masked any effects.

I got the new burr carrier yesterday, thanks to Carolyn and Anothercoffee for that :) I managed (with quite some effort) to fit the top burr into it. I didn't have time to run the grinder up as it was 1:20AM!!
I was going to check it out this morning, but my alarm clock failed to go off, and I woke up 5 minutes before I was due to start work .
Will try again this evening.

I did notice when I was screwing the carrier in that is is a much looser fit in the thread, he pevious one was very stiff to turn.

Tried the grinder very briefly this evening, I set it up the same as previously i.e. turned the top until the burrs touched, then backed off 1/4 of a turn. This setting gave a good starting point with Brazil based blends previously, but this gave me something akin to talcum powder  I had to back off a good 1/2 a turn more. This leads me to think that the burrs are sitting more correctly in the same plane than before.
I ran a couple of test shots with old beans, then one with the Deterra espresso blend, a bit quick at 22 seconds, looked good, but tasted a bit stale, but the beans are 17 days old, althouigh they did spend 4 days inthe freezer in the middle.
I'll do some more extensive testing tomorrow, as I have a fresh roast resting and will be ready tomorrow.
