Advice please espresso machine needed here

Postby Steve » Wed Sep 15, 2004 12:17 pm

Mrs Eeffoc has finally won and my three group la cimbali is leaving the kitchen for a new home. The trade off is that I can have a new 1 group smaller machine, for home use. So any ideas would be very gratefully received.

I’ve got around £400-£450 to spend and would like the groups thoughts. I was taken with Eric’s Faema but as always I’ve just missed out, by my own stupid fault.

Damn, i just popped in here hoping to reapprise the Faema to replace my Gaggia Classic. For this kind of money I assume we're looking at buying secondhand for a decent machine ? Any good places to look in the UK ?

Maybe you can ask Neku, he is the owner of the Vibieme Domobar, which is an excellent machine, if you read the reviews on Cofeegeek. The Domobar is for sale in Holland for GBP 500 supplied by Henk Espresso (www.esw.nl). I know it is just not in your spend target (as always), but then you still got a machine with a Faema E-61 Group. Otherwise I would suggest a Rancilio Sylvia (www.koffiewarenhuis.nl) for sale for GBP 360. It has the most positive reviews on Coffeegeek and a lot of espressofreaks are using this machine, but I think it can not compete the Vibieme. Good luck.

What do you need it for? Will it be for milk based drinks as well as espresso?
Plumb-in ok or is there no tap outlet available?

Why not an oscar or maybe the Cimbali Domus, it's a little machine but it works just great.

Hi Eeffoc,

I have a lovely little Expobar which I have just fitted a gauge & brew light to.
I have replaced the gaskets & the anti-syphon valve. The machine is like new, in white. It has hardly done any work and even the portafilter shows no signs of wear.

It looks like this:http://www.sreweb.com/yellow_expo.htm

Except it is white & s/steel, in much better condition, and has a new pressure gauge fitted between the steam knob and the brew-switch and a green temp-ready light fitted under the red level l.e.d.
I have adjusted the pressure stat (easy) and replaced the silicone tubing and it steams like a trooper.
I live in Bedfordshire if you want to come and see it. I want about £300

I particularly like my Gaggia - it does everything for you and all you have to do is press a button to make a coffee, top it up with beans and water, and clean it. You can get them for around £460 brand new.

I wish I'd known about the Titanium (which appeared about three months after I bought the Syncrony) - it's more expensive at around £600 but has a one-cup cappuccino making facility as well. Awesome.
I wish I were what I was when I wished I were what I am.

If Steve's not, I might be interested in the Expobar Chris. Any more info ? It's a heat exchanger yes ? Is it also known as an Expobar Office ?

Yes it is an Expobar office pulsar:

Reviews here:http://www.coffeegeek.com/reviews/commercial/expobaroffice

Mine's s/steel & white with a the bigger 3l. reservoir & a pressure gauge and brew-temp (heater off) light.

I would not be selling it, as I intended it for my office (no really) except I have just bought a 2 group machine!!

Pics. available if you want.

Effoc,

For my money the Isomac Zaffiro is an amazing espresso machine. Not sure what they cost, but they are very reliable (apart from 1 or 2 manufacturing faults) and they really allow for the pursuit of awesome espresso.

Just my Euro 0.02
