La Marzocco backflush tablets for Silvia?

Postby larsb » Wed Sep 15, 2004 7:54 am

Experiences or theories regarding whether cleaning tablets for backflushing LM machines would be any good for Silvia? (I know about the caveats about backflushing Slivia.)

I use Caffiiza (however it is spelt!) for backflushing my Silvia, but I would guess the LM cleaning tablets are similar stuff so should be OK.

Eyyy! Kolla! En svensk! En göteborgare! samma som jag!
Du kanske kan ta vanligt maskindiskmedel? Det gör jag till min Vibiemme (E-61)... Funkar fint för mig men vet dock inte om man kan göra så med en Silvia.

...Sorry guys, I simply had to greet him in swedish. A brother! I merely said that I use machine washing powder for my VBM, maybe he could do the same for his Silvia.

Hey zix, just for clarity - wouldn't that be dish washing powder? (Machine washing powder could be interpreted as meaning the stuff you use for clothes)

Sorry, my Swedish is almost (but not entirely) non-existent even though I lived there for a while!

Yo zix! West coast! ;)

Using dish washing powder would be great. Is it safe, though? I imagine special-purpose espresso machine cleaning agents would be optimised for their job, but maybe they're just dish washing powder different marketing. :)

So far, I haven't found any local shops with stuff like Caffiiza, only decalcifiers. That's why I'm turning to stuff like the LM cleaner, which can at least be ordered in Sweden.

Ännu en Göteborgare, eller i alla fall inflyttad sedan 10 år :)

dish washing powder seems to be a good idea. I think I'll try it on my Silvia. She is really in need of a good cleaning.

dyknicke heard that caustic soda (a k a sodium hydroxide) can be used for backflushing. Anyone tried that?

Does one have to buy tablets or can one put the stuff together oneself?

Mera Göteborg! Gôtt!
Yes, you can but maybe it is a bit too hard on your Silvia. I used it for my VBM a couple of times until my dealer (Pasta e Panini, Peter. Nice guy) said that dish washing powder (thank you Phil) is what he uses and maybe "caustic" is a bit drastic, unless you *really* need to clean the machine. Seems to me the dish washing powder does a great job, so I am not going back to caustic soda. I have heard that dish washing powder is often used on the pro machines too, at least where I live. But maybe we should let the pro´s here answer that. Specialty detergent or dish washing powder, which one do you use? Or none of those, perhaps?
