Pressure gauge setting

Postby pault » Fri Jul 23, 2004 9:37 pm

sorry if this is old hat but ...

My gauge setting on the Giotto varies from 1.1 to 1.3 - too high, about right??

any consensus or do people differ?

So does the gauge on my VBM Domobar. The water in your boiler is very close to boiling temperature, so you would expect the pressure to be around 1.1 - 1.3 bar considering it gets heated up on and off. Since I have the PID it stays at a constant pressure (about 1.2 I think).

Or do you mean the pressure when brewing? Surely 1.1 bar is bareley enough to get a drop of water out of the grouphead... or do you mean 11 bar?

I'm just referring to the pressure gauge on the front of the machine bottom left

Giotto website in Australia said 1.1-1.3 cycle was about right

all the best,

Paul.

This is one of those personal preference things (and to a certain extent affected by the roast level of the beans you are using)

Yours is in the typical range but if you are experiencing bitterness, reducing it slightly may help.

Just as an FYI: mine is running between 1.05 & 1.15 Bar.

(1.1 Bar Gauge = 121.87C & 1.3 Bar Gauge = 124.71C)

cheers,

Paul

Could be that you have the older, non-adjustable type or you have the adjustable type but it is set to 0.2Bar.

The adjustable type is pictured here: http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/espres ... ines/49285

You see, that is where the PID comes in handy! No more cycle and (therefore) always the right brewing temperature. :)

Yes, I've been thinking about PIDing the Silvia - it's hidden in the garage at the moment, out of sight out mind. I told my wife I would sell it to help pay for the Euro, hey, everyone's allowed a fat lie once in a while right?

Fuji HK are the cheapest supplier of the PXR3 but won't ship to the UK, you interested in assisting?
