insulation

Postby pault » Wed Jul 21, 2004 3:24 pm

I don't have easy access to a DIY store but wanted to get hold of some good insulation material for my Giotto to stop the water reservoir getting too hot ...

if anyone has any precut stuff of approx the right size and can send it me I can get a book or some misc accessory sent to them by way of payment/thankyou

otherwise advice on the best stuff to use & how to get it would be much appreciated ...

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

I think I can help you there - I'm in the midst of setting up my new PC so I'll PM you later.

Cheers

Right, I've just uploaded some insulation installation pics to http://www.PictureTrail.com/gid3946645

The actual insulation is felt pipe lagging which is stitched down one side to form a tube, into which, it is intended that you feed your copper pipe before fitting it in place. I used it in its flat, unopened state and wrapped the boiler like an Egyptian bandaging a mummy. The first layer I did horizontally and the second circumferentially (round the other way) in strips, tucking the ends into the previously applied insulation.

The other two pics show the insulated 'firewall' for want of a better word, consisting of layers of sub-laminate floor insulation covered with kitchen foil. I originally made it as an experiment but it seems to work so next time I've got the back off I'll make one more tailored to fit.

Just out of interest Ian, why didn't you upload the piccies to TMC? No worries, just wondered.

Phil, by using a picture host, I can get my pics up much more quickly as I don't have to worry about adjusting them for the 75KB limit for CG or getting the width right for TMC.

In this case, I put some pics up for Paul to get a better idea of what I was describing as it's generally preferable to receiving large email attachments.
Afterwards, I thought I ought to place the link here along with some text chopped out of an email in case anyone else was interested.

Hey, I have to save something for my article!

Cheers
