Using the best possible water.

Nope I am not talking about gallons of Evian.

When I decided to get my machine plumbed in, I wanted to do it for 3 reasons.

Firstly, I wanted to use good water (read filter) to eliminate or greatly reduce the need for aggresive (corrosive?) mainenance.
Also, I was curious to see how line temp water differed to resivoir temp (luke warm) water.
Lastly, I still have ambitions of renovating an older single group commercial machine. I thought this would be much easier with a water outlet.

Now I have it all done, and the Tea has been running through the filter (a carbon filter I guess) I find myself asking; "Is this all that is required?"

Is a filter all that is needed or should I get a water softener as well? Amsterdam water is as hard as it comes IMO but the guy at the shop said that this filter was all that's required. Do the long tubular filters get rid of the calcium in the water?

-D
p.s. as a second question. Since my machine ran for about 4-5 months on unfiltered water, can someone recommend a proper decalcifying product?
