VBM Ukla pump kaput

Postby Sunnyfield » Sat Mar 20, 2004 5:13 pm

My VBM Ukla pump is broken. The pressure builds up to 4bar. It actually spikes up to 6-8bar and then I hear a puff and the pressure drops to 4bar.

Carolyn, does that sound like I need a new pump? If so, do you sell them? I know www.londonespresso.com do, but I may as well source from you.

Thanks
Eward

PS Filter coffee is also nice!

I replaced the ULKA pump today. I bought it at Londonespresso.com in North London. Unfortunately my problem still persists. I now start to believe it is the pump one way valve that is broken... to be continued. FYI the pump was £58.75.

PS Pump anybody ;-)

Assuming that the new pump is servicable, a few suggestions:

Pump inlet pipe blockage.

Pump outlet pipe blockage.

Internal leakage - is there water flowing in the return to the tank?

External leakage - guess you would have spotted this.

Gauge reading incorrectly - unlikely.

I'm not familiar with the Vibiemme internals, got any pics?

I've just been thinking about this and I reckon the prime suspects could be:

The OPV opening too early in which case you would see a flow in the return back to the tank. It's not plumbed in is it?

The 3-way solenoid is not closing properly in whch case you would see a flow into the drip tray ( or where ever it goes) while pulling a shot.

Could also be the one-way valve that you mention.

I haven't had a chance to investigate more properly, because of my move to HK. The movers will pick up all my goods on tomorrow (Thu 15 April), so I will not find out until 10 weeks from now when the stuff gets delivered to my new flat.

I will keep you posted!
