Aargh, not another Gaggia

Postby moccafaux » Mon Jan 05, 2004 12:32 pm

 I acquired my fourth Gaggia from the scrap today
Why cant I find something nice and big with an e61-grouphead?
Dont get me wrong, the Gaggias work fine, but I want something BIG!

BTW if anyone's interested, there's a Gaggia TD 2 group on UK eBay at the moment. You might get it quite cheap, but it does look like it needs a good overhaul.

Advantages :
  • Great shots
  • 2 groups
  • Uses domestic 13A supply
  • Rock solid, easy to maintain - any commercial espresso engineer can work on it.
  • Useful for cooking (e.g. scrambling eggs), making other drinks etc
  • Secures your status as a total coffee nut!
Disadvantages :
  • Rather large for most domestic arrangements (my wife is very understanding, bless her)
  • Really needs plumbed water supply and waste arrangements (although you can get away with bottled water and a bucket!)

I disassembled the machine yesterday.
The grouphead is sparkling new, like it has never been used. The boiler was filled with a white jelly!
I havent glue what happened to this machine, but I will try to repare it.

Which Gaggia is it exactly? And what do you do with them all once they're working again, sounds like you could start a Gaggia Museum!

Yep. My Solis Maestro isn't cutting it on the espresso front and I don't mind a restoration challenge - how much can it need anyway ? a new hopper, burs and a good clean I hope. It's just up the road from me, in Sheffield, too.
