I really enjoy reading TMC. Paul A Taylor got me hooked in reading what is going on in Europe. He has also bought a lot of my tampers! I just love Isle of St. Helena coffee. In as much as the island has a close ties to the UK, what experiences have you had with St. Helena coffee? It is almost impossible to get in the United States and the service from St. Helena is very poor.

Hi Les! Paul is indeed a big fan of your tampers (just read the 'Tamper hype' post!), which gets us just a bit worried sometimes
If you enjoy TMC so much, why don't you sign up as a member? You are in Europe, if I recall correctly?

just to pick up on Les's comment - anyone tried St Helena stuff ...
I vaguely remember reading that although it's highly prized the output is very small (well, I suppose those 2 things can often go together)
and I'm not a tampaholic !!

I can get St Helena in March....still deciding if I should risk it. It's very expensive - about LMB range. Have to take a certain amount.
Any comments?

are you getting it as green beans?
that would be a safer option - gives you more time to build a demand for it and/or sell it on. I'd be interested in a few kilos ...

yep, greens, but still - that stuff is expensive and I would have to sell it expensive.
To be honest, I got Kopi Tongkonan Toraja around X-Mas. Got 5x 250gram bags and only sold two. One goes for 49 Euros. It's much, but it's a very special coffee: grows wild in the Toraja mountains. One can only get it by kg mini bags. It has a wonderful taste.
So the St. Helena is even in a higher price range then the Kopi TT.

I see there are some folks on line. Looks like St. Helena coffee is as much a mystery in the UK as it is here in the States. I wonder if Japan is buying all his coffee. So are there some good 220 -240 volt roasters in Europe that we don't see in the land of 120 volts.

Well, I wouldn't call it a mystery, just hard to get, very good and expensive
The Japanese are busy keeping the Jamaica Blue Mountain and your Kona high priced
European roasters? Hard one - we always try to get USA 120V stuff with 220V settings....
Your market is quite ahead of us Europeans when it comes to homeroasting.

Not really sure that's true Joey. They have the Hottop and the I-Roast. So do we. There are other things around in the US market but I would say that these two roasters are the main choices in the market at the moment.
