The real cost of shiny new machines

When I tell friends that I’ve spent over £900 on a coffee machine, they think I’m mad. Even on this forum there are some who think that £900 is too much, but think about it. An espresso machine is used at least once a day more or less 365 days per year. Most people now have a digital camera. Even if it only cost £200, on a per use basis that’s very expensive. Also in 5 years time my espresso machine will still be worth around £400 pounds on ebay. A 5 year old digital camera will probably not be worth selling. Camera’s are just one example – bicycles, boats, radio controlled aircraft, video camera’s, football even fishing. On a £/use basis these hobbies cost far more than our lovely shiny machines. I could go on about phones and ipods and ridiculous cars and Sky TV and………. but why bother, I’ve got coffee to make.
